One of the most challenging aspects of treating dually diagnosed patients is helping them overcome denial. They often do not acknowledge
their dependencies of the seriousness of their disorders. Therefore, one of our first goals is to help patients recognize denial and how it slows the recovery
process. Then, we educate patients about their conditions and how to manage them. Patients receive encouragement and support in choosing alternative behaviors
that are healthy and productive. And, because self-esteem issues frequently are at the core of behavioral health and chemical dependency problems, Hampton's
staff makes positive feedback a priority.
While all our treatment approaches are tailored to the individual needs and functioning level of the patient, certain features are standard
for dually diagnosed patients. All patients participate in psychotherapy, including individual, group, and family therapy. In all cases, patients participate
in 12-step programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous.
